Inquiry-based learning is a method of learning based on questioning, autonomy, and discovery, aimed at cultivating students' spirit of inquiry and problem-solving abilities. Second-grade students at Fettes College Guangzhou are currently engaging in an inquiry around the theme "How the World Works," exploring different types of weather, the relationship between technology and weather, and how people utilise weather phenomena and technological advancements to improve their lives.
Throughout this process, the library becomes a crucial space for students to gather information and resources for their group inquiries. They determine the specific weather types they want to delve into based on their interests, form different groups, and visit the library as a group to access books, analyse articles, and select key information for discussion and recording. The IB curriculum emphasises the development of students' information literacy and research skills, and the library, as an information resource centre, provides opportunities for students to search, filter, evaluate, and utilise information.
