The universities of the United Kingdom, North America, Australia, Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore attract Chinese students who wish for the opportunity to have careers abroad in the future, or simply wish to experience life and study somewhere new. This article will introduce key areas of comparison across different countries to show what questions to ask when you start the process of finding the perfect course at the best possible university.

首先要了解的是，通过高考升入大学的中国学生，以及那些拥有国际资格申请世界大学的学生，他们的情况有何不同。

在高考中取得高分的学生将被中国顶尖大学录取——在大多数情况下这是有保证的;然而, 一个很好的平衡结果、英语水平、丰富活动的参与、一个优秀的个人陈述和大学和课程的正确选择将会是成功获得英国、北美、澳大利亚、欧洲、香港和新加坡大学offer的关键。

The first thing to understand is how the profiles of students progressing to university in China from the Gaokao, and those who apply to world universities with international qualifications, differ.  

A student with a high grade at Gaokao will secure a place at a top university in China – this is guaranteed in most cases; however, what makes you successful in securing a university place in the United Kingdom, North America, Australia, Europe, Hong Kong or Singapore is a fine balance between subject results, English language level, engagement in enriching activity, an excellent personal statement, and the right choice of university and course in the first place.

Crafting the Personal Statement

无论你选择哪个目的地，你都需要能够在纸上或者当面令人信服地介绍自己。优秀的个人陈述应该具备以下品质: 个性的、有激情的、有准备的、有潜能的。目的-内容和风格应该仔细针对你所申请的课程和机构。

Whichever destination you choose, you will need to be able to talk compellingly about yourself on paper and/or in person. Evidenced in an excellent Personal Statement should be these qualities – personality; passion; preparation; potential; purpose – and content and style should be carefully targeted to the courses and institutions to which you are making an application.

成功的学生有正确的自我认知，有激情，他们有积极开发潜能和与他人描述潜能的能力。计划成功的学生应该学会如何根据对他们个人重要的标准，并在未来职业抱负的背景下比较学校和课程。

Successful students are possessed of self-knowledge and passion and they actively develop their potential and their ability to describe it to others. Students planning for success should learn how to compare schools and courses according to criteria important to them individually, and in the context of future career aspirations.
