4月5日，风和日丽的下午，广州斐特思公学幼儿园英方园长Mrs Danielle McKenna和中方副园长程理来到我们EY1班级小米的妈妈——潘女士的茶馆，畅聊小米小朋友在广州斐特思公学幼儿园的学习经历。当天出席的还有小米妈妈的朋友们，受小米妈妈的倾情推荐，她们也对斐特思公学幼儿园所拥有的早期教育优势和学习氛围，以及公学的历史和学术价值非常感兴趣。大家一起享用下午茶，与会的每个人都进行了有意义的对话，讨论如何养育和关注孩子们的需求，以及通过各种工作坊和家长会向家长们提供的支持。讨论如何养育孩子、孩子的需求以及FCG为家长们提供的支持和信息。

On a sunny afternoon of April 5th, Mrs Danielle McKenna, Head of Early Years, and Cheng Li, the Chinese Deputy Head of Early Years, were guests at Xiaomi ‘s mother's tea shop. Mrs Pan is the mother of Xiaomi – a student in our EY1 – to talk about Xiaomi’s learning experience during her time in Fettes College Guangzhou. They were joined by friends of Xiaomi’s mother, invited to learn more about the advantages and learning atmosphere of our Early Years setting, and the history and academic values of the college. Over tea, everyone present enjoyed meaningful conversation about raising Early Years students: their needs, and the support and information which FCG provides its families.

Please introduce Xiaomi’s character

小米是一个外向活泼的孩子，她有时候性格比较急躁，喜欢按照自己的方式行事，自我意识强。她很会表达自己的情绪，并会用语言描述某些情绪：“妈妈，我有点难过。”、“妈妈，我太开心了！”她善于表达自我，但由于年龄较小，有时由于词汇量有限，她不能很好地控制自己的情绪。她的学习能力很强，记忆力也很好，所以我对她的发展并不担心，当小米经历新的情景和新的机会时她会逐渐的成长。

Xiaomi's personality is extroverted, though I know her biggest hurdle is that she is too anxious.  She can be set in her ways, and she likes everything be automatic. She is actually very good at expressing her emotions and she verbalises certain feelings: “Mum, I feel sad”; “Mum, I'm so happy!” She likes to express herself but because of her young age sometimes she can't control her emotions due to a limited bank of vocabulary. Her learning ability is very strong and her memory is good too so I have no worries in her development; it will be extended naturally as she experiences new situations and new opportunities.

一位朋友向我推荐了广州斐特思公学，我当时参加了学校的开放日活动。程园长做了幼儿园教育理念说明会，我对她印象深刻，当时就觉得我的女儿长大也应该是如此优雅大方。老师们的教育素养都很高，说明会上每位工作人员的言辞、穿着和仪态都非常得体，第一感受是很强烈的，满满的高级感。我对课程的质量、课程价值观和理念感到有信心。我很喜欢这所学校，无论如何，我都会确保我的女儿在这里学习！学校提供了高质量的教育，老师们有很好的敬业精神和专业精神，我相信许多来访的家长都会有同样的看法。

Fettes College Guangzhou was recommended by a friend, and I attended an Open Day. I found the introductory speech informative, the presentation and quality of the staff high, and the atmosphere and discussion of all present was of a premium level. The first impression of the school and staff was therefore very strong. We went to the learning rooms and I felt confident with the quality of these, and the values and the philosophy behind the curriculum. I liked the school very much and no matter what, I would ensure my daughter studies here! My view is clear that school offers quality, dedication and professionalism, and I believe that many parents who visit will form a similar opinion.

当我参观校园时，课室也给我留下了深刻的印象。有一些幼儿园的课室比较狭小，一个班有很多学生，我认为比较难确保孩子们的健康；广州斐特思公学幼儿园的教室非常宽敞，有很好的自然采光和通风，有独立的餐厅、午休室和很多的专用功能课室。小米从去年九月入学以来，几乎没有生过病，我对老师们如此敬业、热情、高素质感到非常满意。克洛伊·卡伦老师的到来也让我非常高兴。

When I visited the campus, the classrooms also left a deep impression on me. Some Kindergarten classrooms have many students within a small classroom space which is not necessarily healthy; however, the classrooms in the EY at Fettes College Guangzhou are very spacious with wonderful natural day light and ventilation. There are independent dining halls , independent lunch break areas and a variety of functional classrooms. Xiaomi has been enrolled since Semester 1 and has never had any illness, and I am very satisfied with the teachers who are so dedicated, passionate and highly qualified. The arrival of teacher Ms Chloe Carron also made me very happy.

可能是家庭的原因，小米刚来学校的时候比较任性，她喜欢做“大姐大”、对控制有着强烈的渴望。朋友的女儿也跟小米一起玩过，都要听她的。我观察到她在游戏活动中的领导能力。学会轮流和发展友谊是幼儿学习的重点领域之一

It may be due to family reasons, but when Xiaomi first arrived at school, she was more headstrong. She liked to be the ‘big sister’ and had a strong desire for control. A friend's daughter played with Xiaomi and I observed her ability to lead on play activities. Turn-taking and friendship development is one of the key learning areas in Early Years.

入学斐特思幼儿园一个月后，我发现小米有了很大的变化，我的朋友也都说，确实是进步很大，以前我跟她沟通不了，你说什么她都不听你的，她当时才两岁，我跟她说很多事情，她会直接说：NO！并且还会跺脚表示愤怒。

现在入读斐特思已经一个多学期了，小米在情绪控制上有了很大的进步。小米完完全全地变了，特别是在很多生活习惯上，现在见到人就会说hello！有人拿东西给她，她也会开心地说谢谢！家里来客人，她也会主动送客人到门口，而且现在也会自己主动穿衣服穿鞋子，不让我们帮忙！每天早上都会整整齐齐地叠好自己的小被子，洗完脸还会把洗脸巾对折再对折，方方正正地搭在洗手池旁，很整齐！小米的这些变化使我感到非常惊讶，简直令人难以置信！斐特思公学幼儿园老师真的是很用心在教育孩子！现在的小米完全是我期许的样子！

Even one month after Xiaomi enrolled in Fettes College Guangzhou Early Years, I found that Xiaomi has changed a lot. My friends also have observed her great improvement. With the healthy student numbers in school, teachers are able to teach the children one by one. I could not communicate with Xiaomi before and she would not listen to what was said to her. When she was 2 years old, I told her many things and she would directly say NO! And stomp her feet to express anger.

It's been over a semester now and Xiaomi has made great progress in her emotional control. Xiaomi has completely changed, especially in her  social habits: now she can say ‘hello’ when she sees people; if someone gives her something, she will happily say ‘thank you!’ When guests come to our home, she will also take the initiative to show them to the door, and now she also takes the initiative to put on clothes and shoes by herself, not letting us help. I feel that these changes have surprised me so much. It is totally unbelievable! Every morning, she neatly folds her quilt. It's exactly what I dreamed and hoped for Xiaomi.

自从克洛伊·卡伦老师加入班级以来，我也感到非常高兴–她的确是一位非常优秀的老师。 担任教职后不久，她就跟我谈论了小米，这使我能更好地了解女儿。我很惊讶她能在这么短的时间内如此彻底地了解小米，并且能清晰地评价小米的各个发展领域。她甚至比我更了解小米。Ms Chloe老师还专门为小米制定了个性化的教学方案。从最开始急躁的性格，到现在可以告诉我：“妈妈，积木倒了是很正常的，搭积木不可能搭到最后都不倒的。”小米现在能够接受失败，保持韧性并为迎接下一个挑战感到自豪，这让我十分欣慰。

小米的语言表达能力和词汇量也有很大的进步，她能清晰地听懂英文了，这让我很高兴。有一天去参加学校的睡衣派对，老师用英文问小米为什么换了衣服，小米能够立刻回复说：“因为巧克力洒在我衣服上了。”我当时很惊讶，两岁半的小米居然能听得懂英文。好的语言环境确实可以创造出无限的可能性。在家里，小米也会使用很多英语单词和短句：“粉红色英语怎么说？”，“这个单词是什么？” 她还喜欢唱英文歌，她已成为家里的“小老师”。 我很兴奋，心里想：“太好了！ 我的女儿真棒！”

I am also very happy since Ms Chloe Carron joined – she is really a very good teacher. She talked to me about Xiaomi soon after she took up her teaching position, which made me understand my daughter better. I was surprised that she could understand her character so thoroughly in such a short time and she could clearly discuss the areas of development for Xiaomi. She even knew Xiaomi better than me. Ms Chloe has developed a personalised teaching plan exclusively for Xiaomi. From her impatient personality at the beginning, she can now tell me, “Mum, it's normal for the building blocks to fall”. This makes me very proud of Xioami’s ability to accept failure, be resilient and embrace the next challenge.

Xiaomi's language skills and vocabulary have also improved a lot. She can understand English clearly, which delights me. When I went to the school activity one day, the teacher asked Xiaomi – in English – why she had changed her clothes. Xiaomi was able to immediately reply that chocolate was poured on her clothes. I was surprised that Xiaomi could understand English; she was only two and a half years old at the time. The right language environment really can create infinite possibilities. At home, Xiaomi also uses a lot of English and Chinese words: “What is pink?”, “What is this word?” She sings English songs to me, and she has become a little teacher for me at home. I was very excited at the time and I was thinking in my heart, “Great! My daughter is amazing!”

当你发现你的孩子和别的孩子明显不一样时，你关心的就绝不是学费了。虽然每天都有各种各样的的挑战和问题，但是很开心，能跟我的女儿一起成长。

When you find that your child is obviously different from other children, your concern is by no means tuition. Although there are various challenges and problems every day, I am very happy to grow up with my daughter.

我没有像其他父母那样着急让我的女儿学习某些技能。 相反，我利用这一阶段进行观察。 广州斐特思公学为我提供了一个很好的平台来观察我的女儿。

I did not rush my daughter to learn certain skills like some parents do. Instead, I took advantage of this stage to observe. Fettes College Guangzhou gives me a good platform in which to observe my daughter.

小米非常喜欢游泳池，并且总是说她学校里的游泳池有多漂亮。她非常喜欢游泳课，我经常带她去游泳。我同意麦肯纳园长的观点，女孩应该发展更多的运动技能，这将使女孩更加自信和坚强。 我将身体发展放在第一位，我希望她多参加户外活动，充分感受大自然的美好。拥有健康的身体，才能为后续的学业发展打下良好的基础。

Xiaomi likes the swimming pool very much and always says how beautiful the swimming pool is. She likes swimming lessons very much and I will often take her to swim. I agree too with Mrs McKenna’s view that girls should be encouraged to develop more sports skills, which will make girls more confident and strong in character. What I value now is that sports rank first; I want her to participate in some outdoor activities and feel good in nature. This is also good for her physical development as a pupil with a strong body and mind has a good foundation for her studies.

如果有机会，我还想多带小米去看音乐会，培养她优雅的气质，希望“活泼”和“优雅”能在我的女儿身上并存。

I would also like to take Xiaomi to more concerts to cultivate her elegant temperament, hoping that liveliness and elegance can co-exist in my daughter.

Campus Activities and Service Go Together

我一直都很喜欢斐特思举办的活动，很有趣也极富教育意义。就像冬季慈善集市活动还有消防车进校园活动等等，很好的把娱乐和教学融合在一起。我自己也是增城互助协会的成员，十分热衷于慈善事业，自己有能力的同时，一定要去帮助那些有需要的人，这样我们的存在才更有意义。冬季慈善集市能很好的培养孩子们的爱心。

I have always liked the activities organised by Fettes which are very interesting and very educational. Just like the Winter Fayre and the fire trucks visiting Fettes Campus. It is a good combination of entertainment and teaching. I am also a member of the Zengcheng Mutual Aid Association, and I am very passionate about charity. While I am capable, I must also help those in need, so that our existence is more meaningful. I think The Winter Fayre can cultivate children's caring very well.

斐特思不只注重孩子的教育，而且也十分重视家长的教育。每月定期开展的家长工作坊我都会参加，我是第一次当妈妈，需要加强学习。正是在这些工作坊中，我知道了如何实现有效的家校沟通，如何培养孩子的阅读习惯，如何培养孩子的数学思维等等。小米在不断进步成为一个优秀的学生，我也在不断进步成为一名优秀的家长。

Fettes not only pays attention to the education of pupils, but also attaches great importance to the education of parents. I participate in the many Early Years Parent workshops regularly held each month. I am also a mother for the first time so I also need to learn more. It was in these workshops that I learned how to achieve effective home-school communication, how to cultivate pupils’ reading habits at home, how to cultivate pupils’ mathematical thinking and so on. Xiaomi is constantly improving to become an excellent student, and I am also constantly improving to become an excellent parent.

伴着小米的放学，我们今天的茶话会也即将结束，这是一场十分轻松有趣且高效的家校沟通。小米妈妈欢迎大家再次到来，还表示可以来她的茶馆开沙龙，一起交流中国传统茶文化。

When it was time for tea time to come to an end, everyone reflected on the easy and relaxed home-school communication. Xiaomi's mother welcomed the Heads of Early Years to visit again.
