做我们的大家长吧，工程师魔王！Outstanding Engineer in FCG Early Year School
How one engineer went from civil and mechanical designing to early year teaching?
Fayi is an engineer from the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto ranks 16th overall in the world and 18th in engineering. He was the lead designer for his engineering team in school, creating complex civil and mechanical designs. He also has a very strong background in using 3D design software in engineering and product design.

How to build an engineer，start young with STEAM education
How should we help children understand STEAM?
Why STEAM education is so important for children?
An engineer's view of STEAM education.
STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics
As society progresses forward, there's a lot more that our children have to learn early, that they can be competitive in the future. Usually, we try to give more tools from sciences, technology, math……everything, so they can try to use skills they learn in class and put together to achieve their think and plan.
STEAM education is an authentic experience
I want to encourage our children to explore what STEAM is. STEAM really is not to teach them, it’s for them to experience. What we try to do is that we use our transdisciplinary curriculum to incorporate all those subjects that they need to learn and bring those bits and pieces into their learning environment, and to help them go outside, do some project-based learning, so that they can get a head start in their learning journey.
Confidence and happiness grow through STEAM education
It is more important to give them this experience so they become interested in learning. When they start really learning about all those subjects, they can say, “wow, I've experienced that before”. They always get a really strong sense of accomplishment. And this is something they can take home, show their parents and friends.
Our children are really responsible for their learning. They're learning a lot more because they love what they're doing. They’re learning and making something out of it, and they're getting a sense of confidence from what they have achieved at the end. And it really gives them that sense of happiness because they have really learned it physically and emotionally through that one experience that they really cared about.
"I am an EY4 class teacher!"
An EY class teacher must care about every aspect of children's life.
Fayi: I am the parent for all my students.
My role as a class teacher in the early years is to really help foster our children grow in school. It's almost like being their parent. And being their parent, I am not just looking at their educational and academic learning, but care about every aspect of their learning. Like how are they eating; how are they feeling; are they socializing with their peers enough; are they able to accomplish what they wanted in their task; what are their aspirations; what do they want to do……There are many things that I have to help them, guide them, and give them a structure that they really strive in.
Fayi: I have a very strict structure.
I was in the military for about five years, so what do I bring as a teacher, is having a very strict structure. Because our children are getting a lot more care, and they are much more precious nowadays than before. If they have experienced so much more hardship, competition in the future, what they really need is to persevere to be strong.
Fayi: I'm strict but care for others.
Through my years of military experience in Canada, even though working with other people in really hard environments, I have the love in that friendship, in that bond I have with my friends. And what do I bring as a teacher, is having that strict structure, but also understanding that teamwork and friendship can really bring us through hardship. I think what I really bring to this table is to be able to show our children how they can become strong, not just by themselves, they can work together with other people. Children can learn from this, and they can grow strong in the future, no matter what hardship they go through, they know they can always overcome it.
For me, it’s my obligation to show them a strong, firm role figure, but at the same time, show that even though you're firm, you can still be loving, you can still be caring to other people.
